For my thesis book at Yale, I was inspired by a vintage recipe binder that I had found on Etsy. The structure appealed to me because it allowed the reader to rearrange the pages as they desired. The book has three main sections. The first is called “Cooking” which is a narrative that runs through the binder and has free floating images associated with each page. Another section called “Ingredients” is a series of envelopes that contain formal writing about my work and reference images. The final section is called “Bon Appétit” which shows my finished works on gatefold pages. I also created an inventory in the back along with blank lined paper so readers could write messages and or add notes to the envelopes.
